National Corps’ visit to Zagreb bears first fruits: Croatian parliament might recognize the Holodomor as genocide

Візит Нацкорпусу до Загреба дав перші плоди: парламент Хорватії може визнати Голодомор геноцидом

On July 7-9, 2019, a delegation of the National Corps met in Zagreb with Marko Milanović Litre, an assistant to MEP Ruža Tomašić, now a member of parliament from the Croatian Conservative Party (HKS), which is part of the coalition named Croatian Sovereignists (Hrvatski suverenisti), the then secretary of the “Croatian Sovereignists” bloc Denis Bevanda and a member of this association Ivan Vukoja.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Jure Vujić, director of Matica hrvatska, the Croatian equivalent of Prosvita, Tomislav Sunić, a well-known Croatian intellectual, and Slavko Burda, deputy head of the European branch of the World Congress of Ukrainians, historian, it was agreed to hold the Fourth Conference of the Intermarium Support Group in Zagreb, now postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, communication with Croatian partners did not stop, and its first results became visible on the sad Holodomor Remembrance Day, which fell on November 28 this year. It was around then when the Member of the Croatian Parliament, Marko Milanović Litre, delivered a strong speech within its walls, in which he called for a proper assessment of this terrible crime of the Communist Kremlin against the Ukrainians – namely as genocide. Let us remind you that as of today, except for Ukraine, only 16 countries in the world have done it.

You can watch the speech at:

In addition, Marko Milanović Litre took part in the commemoration of the Holodomor victims together with the representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Croatia near the already well-known to the Ukrainian allies monument to Taras Shevchenko on the Ukrainian Street in Zagreb.

The Azov Movement’s cooperation with Croatian patriotic circles has been going on since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, when veterans of the Croatian War of Independence, seeing clear parallels between the former Yugoslavia and Russia’s neo-Soviet revanchism, formed one of the largest groups of foreign volunteers first in the Azov Battalion, then Azov Regiment. One of these volunteers, Denis Šeler, has been promoting this cooperation for more than a year, not only in the defense, but also in the civil and political spheres. For example, at the Third Conference of the Intermarium Support Group, Croatia was represented by Brigadier General Bruno Zorica-Zulu, one of the leaders of the Lightning and Storm special operations, and the next conference was logically scheduled to take place in Zagreb.

Representatives of National Corps visited Zagreb on many occasions, in particular, having met with the veterans’ organizations (resulting in the admission of the Azov Regiment to the ranks of honorary members of the Croatian “Frankopan” Veterans’ Union) and having shown solidarity with the Croats after the unjust conviction of General Slobodan Praljak and the succeeding oppression of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the efforts of Croatian partners, especially Denis Šeler, vacations in Croatia for Ukrainian children and families who lost loved ones at the front were organized. Finally, the younger generation of Croatian patriots (Generacija Obnove – GO), now part of the Desna Liga coalition, has attended regularly National Corps’ congresses and the Intermarium Support Group’s conferences in Kyiv, in turn, co-organizing a conference with them at the Catholic University of Croatia in Zagreb.

We heartily thank Marko Milanović Litre and the Croatian Sovereignists for their invaluable solidarity with the Ukrainian nation and wish them success in bringing this great cause to a victorious end.
